What you need

How to make it, step by step

  1. Step 1: Print the template

    1Print the template

Print your chosen pumpkin spice latte template at 100% on plain printer paper (make sure “fit to page” is turned off). Check that the scale bar at the top measures exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page, color the little pumpkin character, leaves, cinnamon sticks, and whipped cream swirl now before any tape goes on.

  2. Step 2: Tape the motif

    2Tape the motif

Cover the entire printed cup motif with wide clear packing tape, including both round end pieces and all the yellow glue tabs. Smooth each strip outward from the center so the orange wrapper and cute pumpkin face get a sleek, glossy finish without air bubbles. Don’t stretch the tape as you lay it down.

  3. Step 3: Cut it out

    3Cut it out

Cut carefully along the solid outer black line of the template. Take your time curving around the whipped cream lid at the top and the autumn-leaf base circle at the bottom so the lid and the bottom stay attached to the main cup wrapper. Don’t cut the dashed lines.

  4. Step 4: Pre-fold every tab

    4Pre-fold every tab

Score all the dashed lines with an empty pen, tracing the curved rim, the base line, the long side tab, and both circle hinges. Fold every yellow tab and both circle hinges inward toward the blank white side once, crease them neatly, and open them again.

  5. Step 5: Snip the bottom tabs

    5Snip the bottom tabs

Look at the narrower bottom edge of the orange cup wrapper and snip only the short lines between the yellow bottom tabs, right up to the dashed fold line. This lets the tabs bend around the leaf-patterned base circle. Leave the top tabs along the gray lid rim for later.

  6. Step 6: Roll the wrapper

    6Roll the wrapper

Roll the wrapper into a tube with the smiling pumpkin picture on the outside. Glue the long yellow side tab inside the opposite edge to hold it so the brown heart band lines up neatly. Then tape the vertical seam from the outside along its whole length.

  7. Step 7: Glue the bottom on

    7Glue the bottom on

Fold the snipped bottom tabs inward around the lower opening of your cup. Put glue on their outer side (the yellow side, which is now facing up). Fold the autumn-leaf bottom circle onto the glued tabs and press it down firmly.

  8. Step 8: Tape the bottom

    8Tape the bottom

Glue alone doesn’t hold on tape. Tape the bottom edge all the way around with overlapping strips of clear tape, bridging the orange cup wall and the leaf-patterned base so the bottom stays closed.

  9. Step 9: Snip the top tabs

    9Snip the top tabs

Now move to the wider top rim of the cup and snip the short lines between the yellow top tabs, right up to the dashed fold line. Keep the whipped cream lid circle attached at its hinge.

  10. Step 10: Stuff it

    10Stuff it

Stand your pumpkin spice cup upright and keep the whipped cream lid folded back out of the way. Stuff the cup lightly through the open top using plastic bags or soft fiberfill so the sides round out smoothly without bulging.

  11. Step 11: Glue the lid on

    11Glue the lid on

Fold the top tabs inward over the stuffing. Put glue on their outer side (the yellow side, now facing up). Fold the whipped cream lid down onto the tabs so the little dark drink opening sits centered above the pumpkin’s face, and press firmly.

  12. Step 12: Tape the lid

    12Tape the lid

Glue alone doesn’t hold on tape. Tape the lid’s edge all the way around the gray striped rim with overlapping strips of clear tape: the tape holds the lid shut for good.

  13. Step 13: Squish!

    13Squish!

Done! Your 3D pumpkin spice latte is ready—squeeze the cup and watch the spiced whipped cream top puff right back up. If you want a slow-rising squishy, prick one tiny pinhole in an inconspicuous spot.

Tips for the perfect squish

  • Crease the curved rim cleanly. The top and bottom of the tapered cup wrapper are gently curved, which can look messy if folded freehand. Score every dashed line with an empty pen and a ruler before you fold.
  • Whipped cream lid pops open. Glue doesn’t hold on tape. Put a new strip of clear tape along the whole seam around the gray striped rim.
  • Cup bulges out of shape. There is too much stuffing pushing against the tapered walls and distorting the pumpkin face. Take some filling out so the sides stay smooth.
  • Wrinkles across the pumpkin. Long pieces of packing tape can wrinkle when covering the wide fan-shaped wrapper. Use shorter strips and lay them on without pulling.

Questions

Can I use only glue for my coffee paper squishy?

No. Glue just holds the yellow tabs in place while you build the cup. It doesn’t stick to tape-covered paper for long, so every glued seam around the wrapper, base, and lid gets a strip of clear tape from the outside.

What paper works best for a paper squishy coffee cup?

Plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) works best. Cardstock is hard to fold once it is taped and makes the cup squishy too stiff.

What can I stuff my pumpkin spice cup with?

Plastic grocery bags (crinkly and light) or fiberfill (soft) both work great. Stuff the cup lightly so the tapered shape stays neat.

Can I make this cup bigger or pair it with a pink drink paper squishy?

Yes! Print the page larger on a bigger sheet of paper—all parts of the cup are one piece, so they always fit together. You can also print our pink drink squishy to build a cute café collection.

Can I make these with a class or a group?

Yes. Print one sheet per person and cut tape strips in advance. Kids can color the autumn leaves and pumpkin on the coloring page while you help with scoring and taping; plan about 45 minutes.
