What you need
How to make it, step by step
1Print the template
Print your chosen confetti cake sheet at 100% scale on plain printer paper—make sure to turn off “fit to page” in your printer settings. Check the scale bar in the top corner to confirm it measures exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page or blank version, color in your sponge layers, frosting, and sprinkles right now before adding any tape.
2Tape the motif
Lay strips of wide clear packing tape across the entire printed cake net, making sure to cover all the yellow and blue tabs too. Smooth each strip down starting from the center outward without stretching the tape. This glossy layer gives the pink icing a shiny glaze and makes your paper slice strong enough to squeeze.
3Cut it out
Use your scissors to cut neatly along the solid black outer line of the confetti cake template. Keep every yellow glue tab and blue tape tab attached as you go around the triangles and rectangular side walls. Take care not to cut into any of the inner dashed fold lines.
4Pre-fold every tab
Line up your ruler along each dashed line and run an empty pen firmly over it to score the paper. Fold every tab and wall crease inward toward the unprinted white side once, then unfold it again. Pre-creasing now is super helpful because taped paper is hard to fold cleanly later once you start building.
5Make the walls
Bring the rectangular cake walls—the two sprinkle sponge sides and the pink frosted back—around into a triangular ring with the picture facing out. Put glue on the yellow side tab and press it inside the opposite wall to hold the corner, then run a strip of regular clear tape along the outside of that vertical seam from top to bottom.
6Close the bottom
Apply glue to the yellow bottom tabs at the base of the cake walls. Fold the plain sponge triangle bottom inward and press those yellow tabs firmly against the inside of the walls so the wedge takes shape. Leave the smiling pink frosted top open for now so you have space to add the filling.
7Tape the bottom
Because glue alone doesn’t hold on tape-covered paper, reinforce the base right away. Place strips of regular clear tape along the outside of every bottom edge of your cake wedge, sealing each seam along its entire length so the base stays shut when you squish it.
8Stuff it
Push small, loose scrunches of plastic bag or tufts of fiberfill in through the open top of the slice. Tuck a gentle bit right into the narrow front point of the wedge first, then fill the back toward the pink frosting crust. Keep the stuffing light and airy so the flat cake walls don’t bulge out.
9Close it
Fold the blue tabs on the top triangle inward and close the smiling pink icing lid over the stuffed slice. Hold the lid flush with the side walls and tape every top edge from the outside with regular clear tape, covering the full length of each seam right up to the front tip.
10Squish!
Your 3D confetti cake squishy is done! Give the slice a gentle squeeze and watch the frosted layers puff right back up. If you want a slow-rising squishy, prick one tiny pinhole along a seam so air escapes slowly.

Tips for the perfect squish
- Keep the front tip sharp. The narrow point of the cake wedge can look messy if you fold by hand alone. Score every dashed line with your ruler and an empty pen before bending the walls together.
- A side seam pops open. Glue only holds the tabs in place while you work and won’t stick to packing tape permanently. Press a fresh strip of clear tape firmly over the full length of the outside seam.
- The sponge sides bulge out. Too much stuffing makes the flat cut sides of the cake slice round out like a pillow. Take some filling out so the sponge walls stay flat and neat.
- Wrinkles on the pink icing. Long strips of packing tape can wrinkle when you lay them over the wide template net. Use shorter strips and smooth each one down without pulling.
Questions
How do you make a paper squishy cake without it popping open?
Glue alone doesn’t hold on tape-covered paper for long—it just holds the yellow tabs in place while you build the slice. To keep your 3D cake paper squishy together, seal every glued seam and the blue closing tabs from the outside with strips of regular clear tape along the whole edge.
What paper works best for this cake slice paper squishy template?
Plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) works best. Cardstock is hard to fold once it is taped and makes the 2.0 × 1.7 in (5.2 × 4.4 cm) wedge too stiff to squeeze.
What can I stuff my paper cake squishy with?
You can use soft fiberfill for a plush bounce or scrunched-up plastic grocery bags for a light, crinkly feel. Whichever you choose, stuff the wedge lightly so the layered sponge sides stay neat.
Can I print this 3D paper squishy cake template larger?
Yes! Print the page larger on a bigger sheet of paper—since all parts of the confetti cake slice are one connected piece, the walls and triangular lids always fit together.
Can I make these cake squishies with a classroom or party group?
Yes—print one sheet per person and cut tape strips in advance. Plan about 45 minutes so kids can color the coloring page while you help with scoring and taping the seams.
