What you need
How to make it, step by step
1Print the template
Print your chosen pink butter page at 100% scale on plain printer paper, making sure “fit to page” is turned off. Check the scale bar at the top right so it measures exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the black-and-white coloring page or blank version, color in the bubble letters, hearts, and creamy swirls now before adding any tape.
2Tape the motif
Lay strips of wide clear packing tape across the entire printed pink butter net, making sure to cover all the yellow and blue tabs too. Smooth each strip down starting from the center outward without stretching the tape, so the cute kawaii face and the Squish Facts panel stay glossy and bubble-free.
3Cut it out
Use your scissors to cut neatly along the solid black outer line of the template, keeping all the glue and tape tabs attached. Take your time around the angled corners of the tabs, and be careful not to cut into any of the dashed interior fold lines.
4Pre-fold every tab
Line up your ruler along each dashed line and run an empty pen over it to score the paper. Fold every single tab and box edge inward toward the white back side once, then unfold it flat again. Pre-creasing now is super important because laminated paper is tricky to bend cleanly later.
5Make the walls
Fold the main panels into a rectangular ring with the pink butter artwork facing outside. Put a dab of glue on the yellow side tab and press it inside the opposite wall to hold the ring together, then secure that corner seam from the outside with a strip of regular clear tape along its whole length.
6Close the bottom
Apply glue to the 3 yellow bottom tabs, fold the heart-patterned base panel shut, and press the tabs firmly against the inside walls. Leave the top swirl lid with the blue tabs completely open for now so you have space to add your filling.
7Tape the bottom
Because craft glue will not stick to slick packing tape for long, reinforce the base right away. Place strips of regular clear tape along the outside of every bottom edge, covering the full length of each seam so the bottom stays flat and sturdy.
8Stuff it
Push loose scrunches of plastic grocery bag or fluffy fiberfill in through the open top. Gently guide a little bit into the corners first, then fill the middle lightly so the pink butter block keeps its crisp rectangular shape without bulging.
9Close it
Fold the 3 blue tabs inward and pull the pink swirl lid down over them to close the box. Hold the lid steady and seal every top edge from the outside with regular clear tape, running the tape all along each seam.
10Squish!
Your kawaii pink butter squishy is ready! Give the block a gentle squeeze and watch it puff right back into shape. If you want a slower rise when you press it, prick a tiny pinhole in an inconspicuous corner seam.

Tips for the perfect squish
- Keep the butter block boxy. If the front kawaii label rounds out like a pillow, there is too much stuffing inside. Pull a little filling out so the walls stay flat like a real block of butter.
- Crisp corners on the wrapper. If the edges between the front logo and the small side panels look messy, score every dashed line with your ruler and empty pen before folding.
- Smooth tape over the swirl. To avoid tape wrinkles across the wide pink swirl top and front graphic, use shorter strips of packing tape and lay them on without pulling.
- Fix a popping corner seam. Remember that glue does not hold on tape once you start squishing the box. If an edge pops open, put a new strip of clear tape along the whole seam.
Questions
How do you make a paper butter squishy hold together without popping open?
Use glue only to hold the yellow tabs in place while you build the box. Because glue does not stick to tape-covered paper for long, every glued seam gets a strip of clear tape from the outside.
What paper works best for a butter squishy template?
Plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) works best. Cardstock is hard to fold once it is taped and makes the squishy stiff.
What can I stuff my paper butter squishy with?
Plastic grocery bags give a light, crinkly feel, while fiberfill makes it super soft. Stuff the rectangular box lightly so the shape stays neat.
Can I make this butter paper squishy bigger or part of a set?
Yes! Print the page larger on a bigger sheet of paper—all parts are one piece, so they always fit together—or pair it with a matcha butter squishy for a cute play kitchen set.
Can I make these with a class or party group?
Yes! Print a sheet per person, cut tape strips in advance, and let kids color the coloring page while you help with scoring and taping; plan about 45 minutes.
