What you need
How to make it, step by step
1Print the template
Print your sandwich cookie sheet at 100% on plain printer paper, making sure to turn off the “fit to page” setting. Check the scale line in the top corner so it measures exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page, color the embossed wafer petals and cream layer now—try classic vanilla, strawberry pink, or mint—and let marker ink dry completely.
2Tape the pieces
Cover only the front and back cookie pieces with wide clear packing tape rather than taping the entire page. Smooth each strip from the center of the chocolate wafer outwards toward the edges without stretching it, since stretched tape wrinkles later. This glossy coat makes your sandwich cookie shiny, strong, and extra squishy to squeeze.
3Cut out both pieces
Use your scissors to cut out the front and back cookie circles along the solid outer black line. Follow the gentle waves around the cookie and cream layer smoothly as you go all the way around, and be sure to keep the small white border intact around both pieces.
4Add a tape border to the back
Lay the back cookie piece printed side down onto strips of regular clear tape with the sticky side facing up. Cut the tape about 1 cm (½ inch) past the paper edge all the way around the circle, then snip this border every 2 cm (1 inch) right up to the paper. These little flaps will hold your round cookie squishy together.
5Join front and back
Put the smiling front piece onto the back piece with the white paper sides together, aligning the wavy cream layer at the bottom. Fold the sticky tape flaps over the front edge one by one and press them down firmly around the curve. Leave a 3.5 cm (1½ inch) gap open at the side (the pink line in the picture shows where) for the stuffing.
6Stuff it
Tear plastic bags, cotton, or fiberfill into small fluffy pieces and push them inside through the open gap. Fill the far curved edges of the cookie first, then plump up the center until the sandwich cookie feels soft and puffy. Stop before it gets overly tight, because too much stuffing makes the round seams pop.
7Close the gap
Fold the last tape flaps over the stuffing gap and tape the opening shut with an extra strip of clear tape. Run your finger firmly along all edges of the round cookie to press the tape flaps down well so no air or stuffing escapes.
8Squish!
Done! Squeeze your puffy chocolate sandwich cookie and watch the happy face puff right back up. Want a slow-rising squishy? Prick one tiny pinhole in the back cookie piece so the air escapes slowly.

Tips for the perfect squish
- My cookie feels too hard. Round pillow shapes get stiff quickly when overfilled. Gently open the stuffing gap, take some filling out until the wafer feels soft, and tape the edge shut again.
- The tape wrinkles on top. Streaks and wrinkles show up easily against the dark brown chocolate wafer. Use shorter strips of packing tape across the circle and lay them on without pulling.
- The curved edge splits open. A rounded border pulls under pressure if a flap comes loose. Put a new short strip of clear tape right across the split edge, overlapping the old flaps to lock it down.
- Dark brown markers smeared. Rich cocoa and pink cheek colors take a moment to set on paper. Let marker ink dry completely before adding packing tape, while printer ink is fine right away.
Questions
Can I use glue instead of tape for a paper squishy?
Not for the edges. Glue does not stick to tape-covered paper, so the round cookie seams would pop open—folding the snipped clear tape border over the edge holds best.
What paper works best for a printable paper squishy template?
Plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) works best. Heavy cardstock makes the round cookie stiff and it will not squish as nicely.
What can I stuff my sandwich cookie squishy with?
Torn plastic grocery bags feel crinkly and light, while cotton balls or fiberfill make it soft and plush. You can also use small pieces of memory foam for a slow-rising cookie.
Can I make this cookie squishy bigger?
At 100% scale, the finished cookie measures about 3.6 × 3.7 in (9.2 × 9.4 cm). To make it bigger, print the sheet at a larger scale like 120% so both the front and back print together on the same page and match.
Can I make these paper squishies with a group or class?
Yes! Print one sheet per person, cut the tape strips in advance, and plan about 30 minutes so kids can color while you help with taping. They can even make a macaron squishy next to build a sweet bakery set.
