What you need

How to make it, step by step

  1. Step 1: Print the template

    1Print the template

Print your chosen blueberry butter page at 100% on plain printer paper, making sure to turn off the “fit to page” setting. Check the scale bar at the top right so it measures exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page, color in the berry swirls, leaves, and little butter face now with markers or pencils before adding any tape.

  2. Step 2: Tape the motif

    2Tape the motif

Lay strips of wide clear packing tape across the entire blueberry butter motif, making sure you cover the yellow and blue tabs too. Smooth each strip outward from the center so bubbles don’t form over the front lettering or the purple swirl lid, and don’t stretch the tape as you place it down. This glossy coat gives your paper box a real wrapper shine.

  3. Step 3: Cut it out

    3Cut it out

Use your scissors to cut carefully along the solid outer black line of the butter net, keeping all the yellow glue tabs and blue tape tabs attached. Take your time around the angled corners of the tabs so they stay neat and wide. Don’t cut any of the interior dashed lines—those are the fold lines that form your rectangular block.

  4. Step 4: Pre-fold every tab

    4Pre-fold every tab

Place a ruler along each dashed line and trace firmly over it with an empty pen to score the paper. Fold every single tab and box line inward toward the blank white back once, then unfold it flat again. Taped paper gets stiff and tricky to bend once the block is partly built, so pre-creasing now gives your butter stick crisp corners.

  5. Step 5: Make the walls

    5Make the walls

Fold the side panels—the front label, the berry ends, and the squish facts back—into a rectangular ring with the artwork facing outside. Dab glue onto the yellow side tab, tuck it inside the opposite wall to hold the ring closed, and then run a strip of regular clear tape along the outside of that corner seam for its whole length.

  6. Step 6: Close the bottom

    6Close the bottom

Spread a bit of glue on the yellow tabs attached to the blueberry-and-heart patterned bottom panel. Fold the bottom flap in to meet the walls and reach through the open top to press the glued tabs flat against the inside of the box. Leave the top panel with the purple berry swirl completely open so you can stuff the butter block next.

  7. Step 7: Tape the bottom

    7Tape the bottom

Since craft glue alone won’t stick to shiny tape for long, reinforce the base right away. Lay strips of regular clear tape over every bottom edge from the outside, running all along the length of each seam where the patterned base meets the side walls. Smooth the tape tightly around the corners so no stuffing can poke through later.

  8. Step 8: Stuff it

    8Stuff it

Push loose, airy scrunches of plastic grocery bag or small tufts of fiberfill in through the open top of the box. Tuck a little bit into the bottom corners first, then fill the middle lightly so the blueberry butter block stays rectangular and flat-sided rather than bulging out like a ball. A gentle fill gives the best bounce when you squeeze it.

  9. Step 9: Close it

    9Close it

Fold the blue tabs on the swirled top lid inward and swing the lid down over the stuffing to close the butter block. Hold the lid snug against the walls and seal every top edge from the outside with regular clear tape, covering the full length of each top seam so the lid stays firmly shut.

  10. Step 10: Squish!

    10Squish!

Your finished blueberry butter squishy measures about 2.3 × 1.2 in (5.8 × 3.0 cm) and is ready to play with! Give the block a gentle squeeze and watch the paper wrapper puff right back into shape. If you want a slower-rising feel when you press it, prick one tiny pinhole into a corner seam so air escapes gradually.

Tips for the perfect squish

  • Keep the butter edges crisp. A butter stick looks best with sharp, boxy corners, so score every dashed line firmly with an empty pen and a ruler before folding.
  • Stop seams from popping open. Glue doesn’t hold on slick tape once you start squishing, so always cover every glued seam from the outside with a full strip of clear tape.
  • Fix a bulging butter block. If the front blueberry label rounds out instead of lying flat, take a little stuffing out before taping the swirled top shut.
  • Avoid wrinkles on the swirl. To keep the purple cream swirl and lettering smooth, lay down shorter strips of packing tape without pulling or stretching them.

Questions

How do you make a paper butter squishy without the seams opening?

Use glue only to tack the yellow tabs inside while you assemble the box, then seal every single seam from the outside with clear tape. Glue alone doesn’t hold on tape-covered paper when you squeeze it.

What paper works best for a butter squishy template?

Standard plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) is ideal. Heavy cardstock becomes too stiff once covered in packing tape and won’t squish nicely.

What can I stuff my paper butter squishy with?

Plastic grocery bags give a fun crinkly feel, while polyester fiberfill makes it soft and plush. Just stuff the rectangular box lightly so the sides stay neat and square.

Can I print the butter paper squishy template bigger?

Yes! You can scale the printable up on a larger sheet of paper—since the whole butter block is one connected net, all the walls and tabs will still fit together.

Can I make these butter squishies with a class or group?

Yes! Print one sheet per person, pre-cut the tape strips, and plan about 45 minutes while kids color and you help with scoring and taping. You can also pair this berry stick with our matcha butter squishy so everyone can pick a flavor.
