What you need

How to make it, step by step

  1. Step 1: Print the template

    1Print the template

Print your chosen page at 100% scale on plain printer paper (make sure “fit to page” is turned off). Check the scale bar at the top right: it should measure 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page, color the red stripes, golden fries, and rosy cheeks now before adding any tape.

  2. Step 2: Tape the motif

    2Tape the motif

Lay strips of wide clear packing tape across the entire printed net, making sure to cover the yellow glue tabs and blue tape tabs too. Smooth each strip outward from the middle without stretching the tape so the striped walls and the pile of fries on the top lid stay wrinkle-free.

  3. Step 3: Cut it out

    3Cut it out

Use your scissors to cut neatly along the solid black outer line of the carton net. Take your time around the angled corners of the yellow and blue tabs so you don’t snip them off, and be careful not to cut into any of the dashed fold lines.

  4. Step 4: Pre-fold every tab

    4Pre-fold every tab

Place a ruler along each dashed line and trace firmly over it with an empty pen to score the paper. Because the carton tapers downward, scoring the angled wall lines accurately is key. Fold every single line and tab inward toward the blank white side once, then unfold it again.

  5. Step 5: Make the walls

    5Make the walls

Curl the striped carton walls into a ring with the kawaii face and artwork on the outside. Dab glue onto the angled yellow side tab, press it inside the opposite wall to line up the red stripes, and run a strip of regular clear tape along the whole outside seam.

  6. Step 6: Close the bottom

    6Close the bottom

Swipe glue onto the 3 yellow tabs around the red heart-patterned bottom square. Fold the bottom piece up into the narrower end of the carton and press the tabs firmly against the inside walls. Leave the wider top lid with the golden fries open so you can fill the box.

  7. Step 7: Tape the bottom

    7Tape the bottom

Since craft glue only holds the laminated tabs temporarily, reinforce the entire base now. Place strips of regular clear tape around every bottom edge from the outside, pressing them down smoothly along the full length of each seam so the bottom stays completely sealed when you squish it.

  8. Step 8: Stuff it

    8Stuff it

Push small, loose puffs of fiberfill or scrunched plastic bag pieces down through the open top. Fill the narrower bottom corners first, then work your way up toward the wider opening. Keep the stuffing light and airy so the tapered walls stay flat instead of bulging out into a ball.

  9. Step 9: Close it

    9Close it

Tuck the 3 blue tabs on the fry-covered top lid down inside the carton walls and pull the lid shut. Seal the top by running strips of clear tape along every upper edge from the outside, covering the whole length of every seam so no stuffing can poke out.

  10. Step 10: Squish!

    10Squish!

Your kawaii fry carton is ready! Give the striped sides a gentle squeeze and watch the box puff right back into shape. If it feels completely airtight and bounces back too fast, poke one tiny pinhole into a seam to let the air escape slowly when you press it.

Tips for the perfect squish

  • Slanted walls look crooked. Because this carton is wider at the top than the bottom, score the angled dashed lines carefully with a ruler and an empty pen before folding.
  • Side seam pops open. Glue alone slips right off packing tape, so always seal the angled side seam and every bottom edge from the outside with a full strip of clear tape.
  • Carton bulges into a ball. Pull a little stuffing back out before taping the fry lid shut so the striped walls stay flat and keep their classic tapered box shape.
  • Wrinkles over the kawaii face. Lay shorter strips of packing tape across the front panel and smooth them from the center outward without pulling.

Questions

How do I turn this into a hot fries paper squishy?

Print the coloring page or the blank version of the template and color the fries on the top lid in bright fiery red and orange tones instead of golden yellow! You can also add little flame doodles onto the blank carton walls before you cover the sheet with packing tape.

What other food squishies go well with these fries?

You can craft a whole snack tray by pairing your fry carton with our chips bag squishy or a sweet drink. Since every template prints on regular paper, it is easy to make a matching collection.

Can I build the fry carton using only glue?

No, glue only holds the yellow tabs in place while you assemble the shape. Because glue does not stick permanently to tape-covered paper, every seam needs a strip of clear tape along the outside.

What paper weight works best for this tapered box?

Standard plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) is ideal. Heavy cardstock becomes too stiff once laminated with packing tape and won’t squish nicely.

Can I make this craft with a group or class?

Yes! Plan about 45 minutes, print one sheet per kid, and pre-cut strips of clear tape in advance so everyone can focus on coloring, scoring, and stuffing.
