What you need
How to make it, step by step
1Print the template
Print your chosen sheet at 100% on plain printer paper (make sure “fit to page” is turned off). Check the scale bar at the top right: it should measure exactly 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you picked the coloring page version, color the strawberries, blossoms, and butter lettering now with your markers or pencils before adding any tape.
2Tape the motif
Cover the entire strawberry butter wrapper with wide clear packing tape, making sure to include all the yellow and blue tabs. Lay each strip down gently and smooth it out from the center toward the edges without stretching the tape, so the glossy pink lid and side panels stay flat and wrinkle-free.
3Cut it out
Use your scissors to cut neatly along the solid black outer line of the template, keeping every yellow glue tab and blue tape tab attached. Take your time around the angled corners of the tabs, and be careful not to cut into any of the inner dashed fold lines.
4Pre-fold every tab
Place your ruler along each dashed line and trace over it firmly with an empty pen to score the paper. Fold every single tab and box edge inward (toward the blank white side) once to create crisp corners for your block, then unfold everything flat again—taped paper is much harder to crease later.
5Make the walls
Fold the side panels—the front label, the two short berry ends, and the “Squish Facts” back—into a rectangular ring with the artwork facing out. Dab glue on the yellow side tab, press it inside to hold the ring together, and secure that corner seam from the outside with a strip of clear tape along its full length.
6Close the bottom
Apply glue to the 3 yellow bottom tabs surrounding the pale strawberry-patterned base. Fold the bottom flap in and press the glued tabs firmly against the inside of the walls so the block takes shape. Leave the pink berry-chunk top open for now so you have room to add your filling.
7Tape the bottom
Because craft glue alone will not stick to slick packing tape for long, reinforce the base right away. Place strips of regular clear tape along every bottom edge from the outside, running the tape the whole length of each seam so the strawberry pattern base stays tightly shut when you squeeze it.
8Stuff it
Push small, loose scrunches of plastic bag or fluffy bits of fiberfill in through the open top of the butter block. Gently tuck the filling into the corners first, then fill the middle lightly so the finished 2.3 × 1.2 in (5.8 × 3.0 cm) block keeps its neat, flat-sided rectangular shape.
9Close it
Tuck the 3 blue tabs inward and fold the pink strawberry-chunk lid down over the stuffing like a real butter package. Hold the lid snug against the walls and seal every top edge from the outside with regular clear tape, covering the whole length of every top seam.
10Squish!
Your kawaii strawberry butter paper squishy is ready! Give the block a gentle squeeze and watch the glossy pink sides puff right back up. If you want a slower, smoother rise when you press it, prick one tiny pinhole in an inconspicuous spot so the air can escape and refill.

Tips for the perfect squish
- Keep the butter block boxy. A real butter block has crisp, straight edges, so score every dashed line firmly with a ruler and empty pen before folding. If the front label bows outward like a pillow, pull out a pinch of stuffing.
- Bubble-free pink lid. Wrinkles show up easily on the wide pink top and front lettering. Use shorter strips of packing tape and lay them down without pulling them tight.
- Popping corner seams. Glue only holds the yellow tabs in place while you work and won’t stay stuck to tape. Always run a fresh strip of clear tape along the entire outside edge of every seam.
- Smooth folds on the wrapper. Because the pink berry sides are small, un-scored folds can look crinkled and messy. Always trace every dashed line firmly with your empty pen and ruler before creasing.
Questions
How do you make a paper butter squishy stay together without popping open?
Glue alone doesn’t hold on tape-covered paper for long—it just tacks the yellow tabs in place while you build the box. To keep your butter squishy from popping open, seal every glued seam and the blue lid tabs from the outside with strips of regular clear tape along the whole edge.
What paper works best for a printable butter paper squishy template?
Standard plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) is the best choice. Heavy cardstock becomes too stiff once covered in packing tape, making the small rectangular butter corners hard to fold and squeeze.
What can I stuff my paper butter squishy with?
You can use loose scrunches of plastic grocery bags for a light, crinkly feel, or soft fiberfill for a plush bounce. Stuff the rectangular box lightly so the flat sides don’t bulge out of shape.
Can I make this strawberry butter squishy bigger or pair it with other designs?
Yes! Because the template is a single connected piece, you can print it at a larger scale on a bigger sheet of paper and all the tabs will still line up. You can also print our toast paper squishy at normal size to make a cute breakfast duo.
Can I make these paper squishies with a class or party group?
Absolutely—plan about 45 minutes for the activity. Print one template sheet per person and pre-cut the clear tape strips ahead of time, then let the kids color the black-and-white version while you help with scoring and taping.
