What you need
How to make it, step by step
1Print the template
Print your dice sheet at 100% on plain printer paper and make sure “fit to page” is turned off. Check the scale bar at the top right: it should measure 2 inches (50 mm on A4). If you chose the coloring page version, color the clouds, rainbow stripes, and pips now before adding any tape.
2Tape the motif
Lay strips of wide clear packing tape across the entire printed dice net, covering all the yellow and blue tabs too. Smooth each strip outward from the center without stretching the tape, so the pastel sky and cute smiling pip stay glossy and wrinkle-free.
3Cut it out
Use your scissors to cut neatly along the solid black outer border of the cross-shaped net, making sure to keep all the yellow and blue tabs attached. Take your time around the angled tab corners, and never cut into the interior dashed fold lines.
4Pre-fold every tab
Line up your ruler with every dashed line between the dice faces and tabs, then trace firmly with an empty pen to score them. Fold each line and tab inward toward the blank white back once, then unfold it—pre-creasing now makes the taped cube much easier to assemble.
5Make the walls
Curl the middle row of squares into a ring with the pastel rainbow artwork facing out. Dab glue on the yellow side tab, press it inside the opposite wall so the rainbow stripe lines up, and run a strip of clear tape along the outside seam.
6Close the bottom
Spread glue onto the yellow tabs around the bottom dice square. Fold that square shut and reach inside the open cube to press the glued tabs firmly against the inner walls. Leave the top square with the blue tabs open so you can fill the cube through it.
7Tape the bottom
Because craft glue cannot hold onto slick packing tape by itself, reinforce the base right away. Place strips of regular clear tape from the outside along every bottom edge of the dice, sealing all the way from corner to corner.
8Stuff it
Gently push small, loose puffs of fiberfill or scrunched plastic bag pieces through the open top. Tuck a little into the corners first, then fill the center lightly so your 1.8 × 1.8 in cube keeps flat faces rather than rounding out like a ball.
9Close it
Fold the 3 blue tape tabs inward and lower the top lid to close the cube. Hold the lid flush with the walls and seal every top edge from the outside with clear tape, covering the full length of each seam.
10Squish!
Your kawaii dice paper squishy is ready to roll and squeeze! Give the cube a gentle press and watch the faces puff right back into shape. If you want a slower rise, prick a tiny pinhole in an inconspicuous corner.

Tips for the perfect squish
- Keep the cube edges crisp. A dice looks best with sharp, square corners. Score every dashed line firmly with a ruler and an empty pen before folding so the walls meet cleanly.
- Fix a splitting rainbow seam. Glue only holds the yellow tabs temporarily and won’t stick to tape long-term. If an edge gaps open, press it shut and run a fresh strip of clear tape along the full length of the seam.
- Dice looks too round. Overstuffing makes the flat pip faces bulge outward. Pull out a bit of filling before taping the lid so the sides stay neat and square.
- Prevent bubbles over the face. Wrinkles across the cute single pip happen when packing tape is pulled tight. Cut shorter strips and lay them down gently from the middle outward without stretching.
Questions
How do I make a paper squishy cube stay together?
Glue alone won’t stick to laminated paper for long; it only holds the yellow tabs in place while you work. To keep your paper squishy cube sturdy when squeezed, seal every single seam from the outside with regular clear tape.
What paper is best for this dice paper squishy template?
Standard plain printer paper (80–100 gsm / 20–24 lb) works best. Heavy cardstock becomes too stiff once covered in packing tape and won’t squish nicely.
What can I use to stuff my paper cube squishy?
You can use soft fiberfill for a plush feel or scrunched-up plastic grocery bags for a light, crinkly texture. Either way, stuff the cube lightly so the flat faces stay square.
Can I make a giant dice squishy or a whole fidget set?
Yes! Because the net is a single connected piece, you can print the page larger on a bigger sheet of paper and all the tabs will still line up. For a fun handmade fidget collection, craft this alongside our squish cube squishy.
Is this a good craft for a classroom or party group?
Definitely—plan about 45 minutes for the activity. Print one sheet per kid and pre-cut strips of clear tape in advance so you can help with scoring and taping while everyone colors their dice.
